Why we built Helira
Every week, millions of Australian drivers face the same question at the bowser: am I getting ripped off?
The fuel price cycle is deliberately opaque. Prices swing 40 cents per litre within a suburb. The station on your commute charges more than one 3 kilometres away. And there is no easy way to know which EV would actually save you money, or whether solar panels would change the equation entirely.
We built Helira because we believe Australian drivers deserve a single source of truth that connects all three: fuel, electric, and solar. Not as separate apps, not as complicated spreadsheets, but as one intelligent platform that answers real questions.
The problem is fragmented information
Today, a driver who wants to make a smart decision needs to check a fuel price app, then separately research EVs on manufacturer websites, then calculate solar payback on a third site, then find chargers on a fourth. Each source has its own agenda, its own missing data, and its own way of making the answer unclear.
Helira brings it all together. We track over 5,400 fuel stations across four states. We compare 77 electric vehicles with true 5-year ownership costs. We calculate solar payback with real electricity rates. And we map every public charger in Australia.
AI that explains its reasoning
We use AI differently from most platforms. When Helira recommends an EV or predicts a fuel price trend, it shows you why. The data sources. The assumptions. The confidence level. We believe transparency builds trust, and trust is the only moat that matters for a platform handling people's money decisions.
Lead with the wallet, not guilt
Helira is not an environmental app. It is a money app that happens to help the planet. We lead with savings because that is what motivates action. A driver who switches to an EV because it saves them $3,000 per year reduces emissions exactly as much as one who switches for ideological reasons. The outcome is the same.
This is why our tone is calm, not preachy. Specific, not aspirational. We show you numbers, not lectures.
What comes next
We are building the Helira Fuel Price Index — a weekly data publication that tracks fuel trends by state. We are working on personalised driving insights, savings share cards, and an EV Switch Score that tells you, on a scale of 0 to 100, whether switching to electric makes financial sense for your specific situation.
Every feature we build answers one question: does this help an Australian driver see more clearly?
If it does, we ship it. If it does not, we do not.
Helira is built by Rabbiico Technologies, an Australian company.
